STEM

Science, Technology, Enginerring and Maths

At Sydenham Primary School, STEM is an exciting, hands-on program that encourages students to explore, create and solve real-world problems. All students participate in a dedicated one-hour STEM session each week in our specialised STEM room, where curiosity and collaboration are encouraged.

Through STEM, students are empowered to think like scientists, engineers, designers and creators while building the confidence and future-focused skills needed in an ever-changing world.

Science

Our STEM learning is strongly grounded in science, with students applying their knowledge through projects that promote innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students learn about lots of different types of sceince including but not limited to; Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. We also do experiments to demonstrate some of the magnificent things that happen in science allowing students to see with their own eyes some of the amazing changes that happen at a molecular level.

Technology

Students also develop important digital skills through experiences with coding, robotics and the use of iPads as learning tools. They will create code as a list of instructions for the robotics to follow and learn to correct their mistakes if their code fails to acheive what they want the robotics to do.

Our program embraces creativity through media production as well, including filmmaking using our green screen technology, allowing students to communicate their ideas in innovative and fun ways. As technology continues to grow, we strive to teach students how to use it in effective ways so that they can be a generation of tech savants, using it for creative and informative ways.

Engineering

Students learn to problem solve by designing and creating things to solve issues with the materials at hand. Engineering is often integrated into our science and technology lessons as students learn how to work in teams to make their ideas come to life together. This helps to improve their communication and creativity skills which is imperitive in both science and technology.

STEM helps to make our students become better critical thinkers, innovators and iterators as they strive to make their inventions better each time they build something.
